Cattle have not evolved to eat corn. Up to 80% of the starch in corn is undigested when consumed by cows, and illnesses can arise from a starch heavy diet. When used first as a feedstock for E100; though, this starch is removed with the protein, fat, some cellulose, yeast, and multiple vitamins and minerals remaining. This byproduct of E100 production -- distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS) -- represents a far superior feed for cattle. If the same quantity of corn was either fed to cattle directly, or first used for E100 production (with a remainder of DDGS), the use of DDGS would result in approximately 15% higher beef production, in 30% less time, with fewer expected veterinary bills.*
